Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project

ASAP's mission is to help local farms thrive, link farmers to markets and supporters, and build healthy communities through connections to local food. They accomplish their mission by providing marketing assistance and training to area farmers; connecting area buyers with farmers who best suit their needs; running the Growing Minds Farm to School Program; offering support and building capacity for farmers markets including ASAP's Double SNAP for Fruits and Vegetables Program; and leading a multi-faceted Local Food Campaign, including an Appalachian Grown branding and certification program and an annual Business of Farming Conference with scholarships for limited resource farmers.

Their resources

ASAP Farmer Toolkit
ASAP's Farmer Toolkit offers an overview of available support and resources on business planning and marketing. It's a great comprehensive guide for beginning farmers with detailed information about ASAP's services, how to access different markets, print and digital marketing, and farm business basics like taxes and regulation.
Grower-Buyer Meetings
Grower-buyer meetings are a chance for farmers and producers to introduce themselves to grocers, distributors, and chefs and discuss products and potential interest. There are no promises made and no contracts signed; it’s just a chance to open a door and follow up later. For growers who are just getting started, this is a great opportunity to learn about individual buyer requirements. Grower-buyer meetings are offered periodically throughout the year, including at ASAP's annual Business of Farming Conference.
Appalachian Grown Program
Appalachian Grown™ is ASAP’s certification program for food and agricultural products grown or raised on farms in Western North Carolina and the Southern Appalachian Mountains. The Appalachian Grown logo identifies local food and farm products to help consumers make informed buying choices. The program is open to family farms in the Appalachian Grown region. Appalachian Grown farms are featured in ASAP's Local Food Guide, available in print and online. Appalachian Grown farms may list their farm for free in the online Local Food Guide. Additionally, Appalachian Grown farms are eligible to receive free one-on-one market planning support and bulk pricing on Appalachian Grown packaging and branding materials.
