Garden Evaluation
MEASURE: POUNDS OF FOOD
Method 1: Weigh all produce harvested
-
With a scale, weigh and log each type of produce right after harvest. (You can put produce in a bucket or bag for weighing.)
-
Log weight after each harvest.
Method 2 (less accurate): estimate yield from garden

Top left: Coharie tribal member weighs and records a bucket of harvested potatoes. Top right: Coharie Tribal Chief hard at work during their yearly potato harvest. Bottom left: young Coharie tribal member has some fun on the outdoor scale. Bottom right: potato harvest bounty
-
Multiply number of plants by average yield per plant. You can get average yields from Extension (link) or use an online calculator to estimate based on 100 ft row.
-
This strategy is useful for "You Pick” gardens without coordinated harvest or distribution.
