Soil and water conservation districts

Description of the Organization:

Soil and Water Conservation Districts work with public and private entities in a non-regulatory capacity to provide financial, technical and educational assistance to private landowners, agricultural producers and the general public in many areas of natural resource management. Districts locally deliver state funding programs, assist with delivery of federal Farm Bill conservation programs, and respond to natural disasters among other duties. There are 96 Soil and Water Conservation Districts in NC, which generally coincide with county borders.

Financial Assistance

  • Agriculture Cost Share Program (ASCP): helps address nonpoint pollution by providing technical and financial resources to implement new agriculutural best maangement practices

  • Agriculture Water Resources Assistance Program (AgWRAP): cost share program for growers to implement best management practices (BMPs) to conserve and protect water resources
