Small Farms Division
The Small Farms Division provides services to small, limited resource, and minority farmers through outreach and education. The Division aims to assist growers who are traditionally underserved by helping them make the most informed decisions while providing advocacy to those without a voice. Services offered by the Division include informational meetings, help with grant applications, marketing support, farmland preservation and empowerment of beginning, small, and minority producers.
Marketing Division
The Marketing Division promotes the sale of NC agricultural products, develops and expands markets, reports farm market prices for commodities, and determines and certifies official grades of farm products. The Marketing Division also manages the Got to Be NC and Visit NC Farms promotional marketing campaigns, which are both a great opportunity for producers to expand their reach throughout the state. The Marketing Division also manages NC's four regional farmers markets.
Agronomic Services Division
The Agronomic Services Division strives to provide all NC residents with diagnostic and advisory services that increase agricultural productivity, promote responsible land management, and safeguard environmental quality. Services offered include laboratory soil testing, plant tissue analysis, nematode assay, waste & compost analysis, solution analysis, and soilless media analysis. The Division also offers field services.
Soil & Water Conservation Division
The Division provides programs, trainings, and technical and engineering services promoting voluntary natural resources management and conservation on the private lands of NC through a non-regulatory approach. Working with federal, state, and local partners, the Division administers a comprehensive statewide program to protect and conserve the state's soil and water resources through General Statute 139. The division provides leadership and assistance to NC's 96 local soil and water conservation districts. These districts are organized as governmental subdivisions of the state, as well as independent public units, and work in a non-regulatory capacity to carry out a comprehensive conservation program. Administered by local districts, the Soil & Water Conservation Division provides cost share and financial assistance programs for various conservation efforts, as well as education and technical assistance for managing animal waste.
