Dollar General

Foundation

Overview:

The Dollar General Foundation primarily funds organizations that benefit children and education where stores are located. This overview outlines the specifications for the “Youth Literacy Grant”, which provides funding to schools, public libraries, and nonprofit organizations to help students who perform below grade level or have trouble reading.

Deadline:

Typically, mid-May of each year.

Funding Priorities:

Youth

  • Implementing new or expanding existing literacy programs

  • Purchasing modern technology or equipment to support literacy initiatives

  • Purchasing books, materials or software for literacy programs

 

Geographic Location:

Must be located within 20 miles of a Dollar General store location.

Grant Size:

Maximum grant size is $4,000. 

Requirements:

Organizations requesting funds must provide direct services to one of the groups of readers defined above, and instruction must be designed to meet the varied learning preferences and needs of the defined target population. 

Organizations that have received a Youth Literacy Grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation in the last two consecutive years are not eligible for the 2018 Youth Literacy Grant. Organizations may reapply after a one-year hiatus period. 

One Youth Literacy grant application may be submitted per organization. Organizations submitting multiple applications for this category will not be considered for funding. If you have questions regarding this rule, please call the foundation for clarification at 615-855-5201. 

Youth Literacy grants provide funding for instructional materials, books, computers and software. Administrative fees, salaries and stipends are not supported.
