Overview:

The Caterpillar Foundation was established in 1952 and aims to transform the lives of impoverished and underserved people and communities in areas Caterpillar serves and around the world. They support efforts that alleviate poverty and address education, environmental stewardship and general human needs.

Deadline:

Grants can be submitted from early November of one year through early June of the next year.

Funding Priorities:

Education: Providing children with the tools they need for future success. 

Numeracy & Literacy:  Providing individuals with the foundational knowledge to flourish as fully participating members of society. Literacy as the ability to read and write in one's primary language, and numeracy is the ability to use mathematics and work with numbers in everyday life.

  • Pre/post testing to demonstrate knowledge increase

  • K-12 academic programs (with a focus on community organizations offering after-school and summer programs)

  • Financial literacy

  • Workforce readiness

 

Environment:

  • Restoring natural infrastructure through air, land and water programs while improving the quality of life as it relates to poverty

  • Restored land

 

Basic Needs:

  • Reducing hunger and increasing the availability of healthy, nutrient rich meals

  • Improving access to clean water and sanitation facilities

  • Helping people transition to safe and stable housing

  • Energy: Access to modern energy services as well as safe and clean cooking technologies
